KARACHI: In protest over the area’s power and water shortages, residents of Punjab Colony stopped both tracks of the main road heading towards Defence Moor on Saturday morning, severely disrupting traffic on important thoroughfares.
For more than four hours, many commuters and drivers in Punjab Colony and the surrounding areas were stranded in a traffic bottleneck. There were also reports of severe traffic jams close to Boat Basin.
As a backup plan, traffic cops rerouted traffic from Korangi to Khayaban-e-Jami and light cars via the Gizri underpass.
After K-Electric allegedly cut off the power to their apartment building at approximately 11 a.m. on Friday, protesters organized the event.
The power outage came when K-Electric targeted unauthorized connections in the neighboring PNT Colony.
