ISLAMABAD: In a harsh ruling, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) invalidated the Excise and Taxation Department’s seizure of a schoolteacher’s car, denouncing the department for illegally taking the vehicle and utilizing it for its personal gain for almost two years without following the proper procedures.
The case concerned a 1990 model car that petitioner Marya Fiaz, a schoolteacher, had bought using the Motor Registration Authority’s (MRA) official registration book, which listed nine prior legal owners over a 20-year period.
On January 21, 2020, her husband submitted the transfer paperwork and got a receipt. That same night, the MRA called to ask him to return the vehicle for forensic analysis.
