Widely known for its vast infrastructure, which includes ports, highways, and power plants, the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is now causing a significant change in Pakistan: the rise of women as key players in the nation’s economic future.
As CPEC enters its next phase, a large number of women nationwide who received training through CPEC-related programs are taking up leadership roles, changing industries, and making sure the advantages of advancement are distributed more fairly.
Women in Tharparkar, Sindh, are shattering gender stereotypes as part of the CPEC initiative. Up to 70 women have received heavy dump truck driving training through the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC), which oversees the Thar Block II Project.
For the historically conservative and impoverished area, this is a historic first.
