Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi wrote on Tuesday that Iran is still interested in diplomacy and that he and the special envoy of US President Donald Trump were “on the cusp of a historic breakthrough” prior to the start of the Israel-Iran conflict.
In a further sign that negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program may soon resume, the remarks, which were included in a piece authored by Araqchi and published in the Financial Times newspaper, praised Trump’s prior negotiating efforts.
“I accomplished more with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in only five meetings over nine weeks than I did with the failing Biden administration during four years of nuclear discussions. “A historic breakthrough was imminent,” he wrote.
