Following media reports that he had departed an early 100th birthday picnic party, Malaysia’s former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad was brought to the hospital on Sunday due to exhaustion, according to his office.
Mahathir, who has led the Southeast Asian country for over 20 years, has had bypass surgery and has a history of heart issues. He has spent a lot of time in the hospital lately, most recently in October due to a respiratory infection.
According to his office, he is being monitored for fatigue-related problems at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur. It issued a statement saying, “He is resting, but we expect him to be back home by this evening.”
