NEW DELHI: After a preliminary inquiry report revealed that the plane’s engine fuel switches had been turned off, two significant commercial pilots’ groups have denied suggestions that human error caused the 260-person Air India tragedy.
According to the study released on Saturday by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), one pilot questioned the other why he shut off fuel, and the second pilot said that he had no idea. However, the report did not draw any conclusions or assign culpability for the June 12 tragedy.
There was no further information provided regarding the pilots’ conversations in the cockpit.
“Deeply disturbed by speculative narratives […] particularly the reckless and unfounded insinuation of pilot suicide,” stated the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA).
