The Bombay High Court cleared all 12 suspects who had previously been found guilty by a lower court in connection with the 2006 Mumbai train bombings, which left 189 people dead and over 800 injured, 19 years after the assaults.
According to NDTV, a trial court in 2015 found the 12 defendants guilty and sentenced five to death and the other seven to life in prison.
The High Court bench, which included Justices Anil Kilor and Shyam Chandak, overturned that decision, ruling that the prosecution had “completely failed” to prove the case against the accused.
“The case against the accused has been completely unproven by the prosecution. The accused’s involvement in the crime is difficult to accept.
