ISTANBUL: As it started the first in-person negotiations with Western nations since Israel and the US bombed it last month, Iran resisted calls on Friday to prolong a UN resolution that ratifies a 2015 nuclear agreement.
At the Iranian embassy in Istanbul, representatives from Iran, the European Union, and the so-called E3 group—France, Britain, and Germany—arrived for negotiations.
The United States withdrew from a 2015 agreement that lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for limitations on its nuclear program, leaving the European nations, China, and Russia as the only remaining parties.
The resolution authorizing that transaction is about to expire on October 18.
