After “serious, frank, and detailed” talks on Friday—the first in-person encounter since Israel and the United States bombed Iran last month—Iran announced it would resume nuclear talks with European nations.
Iran also resisted calls to prolong the United Nations resolution that ratifies a 2015 agreement that was about to expire and was intended to limit its nuclear program prior to the meeting in Istanbul.
For over four hours, representatives from the European Union and the so-called E3 group—France, Britain, and Germany—met with Iranian counterparts in Iran’s consulate. According to the UN nuclear watchdog, the discussions could pave the way for the resumption of inspections in Iran.
