The number represents an increase of 589% from 2022 and is more than twice as high as the previous all-time high in 2021.
An “absolute disgrace” is the Community Security Trust (CST), a charity that shields British Jews from antisemitic attacks. It called the “explosion in hatred.”
For the first time ever, the charity—which also keeps an eye on antisemitism in Britain—reported that it had documented at least one anti-Semitic event in each and every police region in the country.
Over the course of the year, the CST documented 3,328 instances of abusive behavior, 266 assaults, 305 threats, and 182 instances of damage and desecration.
The charity revealed that in 2023 there were 4,103 antisemitic occurrences in the UK, compared to 2,261 the previous year, which had been reported two years earlier.
“This record total is due to the sheer volume of antisemitism perpetrated across the UK following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023,” the study, which was issued on Thursday, states.
2,699 (66%) of the 4,103 incidents of anti-Jewish hate that were documented happened on or after October 7.
