A two-year inquiry resulted in the charging of numerous individuals, including Martine Moïse, who sustained injuries during the attack that claimed her husband’s life.
A legal document obtained by a Haitian news outlet claims that she is charged with “complicity and criminal association”.
Regarding the particular charges, neither she nor her attorney have responded as of yet.
However, Ms. Moïse has recently denounced “unjust arrests” and what she described as a “never-ending persecution” on social media. It’s unclear where she resides at the moment.
Although the lengthy legal document names 51 individuals, it does not name the person who ordered and funded President Moïse’s assassination, a fact that has been bemoaned by Haitian media.
The 53-year-old was shot and killed on July 7, 2021, in his private home outside of Port-au-Prince by a squad of mercenaries, most of whom were from Colombia.
The indictment pertaining to the most recent allegations was leaked to the Haitian news site Ayibo Post on Monday. Walther Wesser Voltaire, the fifth judge leading the murder investigation, has brought them.
He lays forth the claims against Martine Moïse and 50 other individuals in the 122-page legal document.
