Reuters reported that thousands of Russians came in Moscow to mourn and scream the name of opposition lawmaker Alexei Navalny during his tiny funeral, which was held under heavy security.
Navalny’s mother and father attended the solemn service in a Moscow church guarded by police. A photo circulating on social media showed Navalny’s body resting in a flower-filled coffin, with his mother and father nearby.
Outside the church, a mob that was barred from entering screamed “Navalny! Navalny!” while an Orthodox priest led the brief ceremony.
As his coffin was taken out, protesters chanted sentiments such as “Russia will be free,” “No to war,” and “Putin is a murderer.”
