ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s call for the formation of a judicial panel to probe the violent incidents of May 9.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Bilawal urged the Prime Minister-elect to petition Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa to form an investigating commission led by the top judge himself in the May 9 incidents. And, he added, the PTI and the other parties would have to accept the commission’s conclusions.

Bilawal asked all political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to work together to draft a national reconciliation charter that would help the country overcome inflation.

He encouraged his “friends” on the opposition benches to participate in the national political process. He claimed that the people of Pakistan proclaimed such a verdict through their votes, and that they would then be pushed into making decisions together.

“The people of Pakistan are sending a message that they are tired of our infighting. If the people had wished, they would have given one political party a majority,” he remarked, adding that everyone should work on national reconciliation and hold discussions on issues of national importance.

He stated that judicial and electoral reforms will be required, and he would like the opposition to help bring about reforms so that no party would have to feel bad about the future elections.

So, he said, the next time no one would be able to tell if Shehbaz won the poll or “prisoner number 804”.

“You are aware of the difficulties involved in contesting an election. Every day is a war, and the biggest battle is on election day,” he stated.
