The US House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously backed legislation on Thursday requiring China’s ByteDance to relinquish its ownership of TikTok or face a US ban.
“If they pass it, I’ll sign it,” Mr. Biden said when asked about the measure by reporters.
The White House had provided technical assistance in the bill’s development, but White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated earlier this week that the TikTok legislation “still needs some work” before Mr. Biden would approve it.
Former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, stated on Thursday that he opposed a ban because it would benefit rival social media network Facebook.
