About 77,000 of the baby fish, known as Chinook smolts, “hit the water running” as they tumbled into a nearby creek, according to officials.
The fish that were lost accounted for 20% of the entire quantity that state hatcheries intended to discharge into the river this year, according to the news, which also stated that their driver had minor injuries.
Andrew Gibbs, the fish hatchery coordinator for Eastern Oregon, expressed gratitude that the truck’s driver was not gravely hurt.
This shouldn’t affect our ability to continue achieving our full production targets or to gather more brood stock in the future.
