The massive container ship Dali, which lost control and struck one of the bridge’s supports last month, causing it to collapse into the Patapsco River, caused damage to the 1.6-mile structure on Julio Cervantes’ side.
Attorney Chris Stewart claimed that during their break from repairing potholes on the bridge, the workers had “zero warning” that the Dali was coming. Instead, they were just lounging around in their automobiles.
Mr. Cervantes escaped through the manual window of his car, preventing him from falling into the river, according to Mr. Stewart during a press conference, as stated by the Baltimore Sun.
Prior to this, Mr. Cervantes’s wife told the news that it “was a miracle he survived” because he couldn’t swim.
Mr. Cervantes clung to floating debris in the water until help arrived, despite his injuries.
