Even if she and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer want to cut taxes for working people, shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves stated that she would not make “unfunded proposals.”.
She said that she opposed cutting back on government spending. She could not, however, provide assurances and stated that if she were in charge of the Treasury, there would need to be a review of spending.
“We want lower taxes for working people, and we will not be raising the rates of income tax or National Insurance, and that goes for all income tax bands,” the speaker declared.
While we agree that working people should pay less in taxes, I would never, unlike the Conservatives, make promises that I could not properly fund and estimate.
