But there’s more to this standoff than meets the eye. In the beginning, the Pakistani government approved the restricted use of Iranian diesel in order to increase employment in border areas. However, the abuse of this permission for extensive smuggling—most notably in Punjab and Sindh—caused national economic consequences.
