On Christmas Eve, singer Lizzo announced the tragic news that her cherished family dog Pooka had died at the age of eighteen.
Lizzo said in the memorial post, “I’m not ok, I’m so heartbroken,” and added, “rip Pooka.”
The About Damn Time musician paid tribute to the deceased dog on Instagram, sharing pictures from the many happy times in Pooka’s lengthy life that she shared with Lizzo.While one photo showed them sharing a final bedtime kiss, the most saw Lizzo grinning alongside Pooka. Lizzo also added a clay engraving of Pooka’s name and a paw print. Lizzo reached down to give Pooka one more kiss in a previous photo with her mother and sister.In the captions, she paid tribute to Pooka’s life from 2005 until 2023 and referred to the dog as “Pooka.”
Condolences were sent in the comments by admirers and colleagues such as SZA, who wrote, “Wait nooo!! It is truly a privilege to have met you.”
Lizzo’s makeup artist also sent their respects, and many fans conveyed their condolences. Christmas Eve marked the family’s loss, but the outpouring of love demonstrated how much of a treasured crew member Pooka was during his eighteen years with Lizzo. The artist honored treasured memories of her time spent with her deceased dog.
