The city’s residents will have to put up with hot, dry air during the day, as the temperature is predicted to reach 42 degrees Celsius today, according to the Meteorological Department.
The Met Department has explained that the highest temperature so far recorded is 42 degrees Celsius, despite social media being ablaze with allegations that the temperature has already surpassed 50 degrees.
On the other hand, the heat index, which accounts for humidity, gives the impression that it is 45 degrees Celsius.
It is predicted that the sea wind, which often offers some relief from the heat, would not be present, making the situation worse. The present temperature is 33 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius this morning.
The Met Department has issued a heat wave warning for today until June 1 and encouraged people to take the appropriate safety precautions.
The city’s 70% humidity means that people should stay hydrated, stay out of the sun during the day, and look for air conditioning or shade to escape the intense heat.
