Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Friday advised Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to keep his “mouth shut” if he wanted to see a decrease in political unrest in the nation.
In an exclusive interview with Geo News following the contentious social media message made on Khan’s official X — formerly Twitter — account, the minister stated, “I think founder PTI wants to increase tension.”
The former prime minister wrote on X, “Every Pakistani should study the Hamood ur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
According to Asif, the former prime minister—who has been detained at the Adiala jail since August 2023—is attempting to instigate a similar scenario on May 9.
Regarding the aforementioned video, the minister stated that efforts are underway to take down the tweet pertaining to the previous president of Bangladesh.
The minister stated, “Barrister Gauhar [Khan] clarified that the social media team did not seek permission before tweeting,” adding that this was the party’s first social media message that had to be removed.
Regarding the history of the Bangladeshi politician and the tragedy of East Pakistan, Khawaja Asif claimed to take a different stance.
