ISLAMABAD The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) criticized the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) on Monday for their “uncalled for” demand that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa recuse himself from any matters involving the party.
The PTI has demanded that the chief justice recuse himself from all PTI-related cases and not sit on the benches hearing them. PBC Vice Chairman Riazat Ali Sahar and Chairman of the Executive Committee Farooq Hamid Naek have denounced this demand, claiming that the party has not received justice since the top judge took over.
PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan reportedly claimed that his party was not receiving justice earlier but that even its pleas were not being heard at this time in an interview with a private TV channel, according to The News.
He went on, “The PTI core committee wants CJP Isa to not sit on benches in our cases.”
He claimed, “Unfortunately, the decisions that are being made are perceived as being biased; the element of favoritism in case verdicts reinforces our demand.”
In the meantime, the PBC stated that the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act, 2023, stated that “a political party’s wish is uncalled for” since a committee of three members, including the chief justice of Pakistan and the next two most senior judges, has the ability to form a bench.
According to Sahar and Naek, the PTI was applying pressure on the CJ using these kinds of strategies, which is abhorrent and unacceptable in the legal community.
