Technology company Meta claims to have provided information about a Scottish adolescent who committed suicide after falling prey to an Instagram sextortion group.
Murray Dowey passed away in December at the age of 16. He was from Dunblane.
Murray’s mother, Ros Dowey, told News on Wednesday that, despite a court order and a request from Police Scotland, Instagram’s parent company, Meta, had not yet given up the material from Murray’s account.
But Meta said in a statement issued on Thursday that they have complied with all data requests and have worked with the authorities.
The business had previously stated that it was working with the appropriate authorities and that its thoughts were with the family.
Now, Police Scotland has acknowledged receiving the information.
“I’m glad that Police Scotland has the data at last, but Meta has taken far too long to release it,” stated Mrs. Dowey. They must greatly improve their cooperation with law enforcement as their hold-ups are endangering the lives of other young people.
Murray committed suicide after falling for a con artist posing as a girl on Instagram and tricking him into sharing incriminating photos.
