Alexi Lalas, a former standout player for the United States men’s soccer team, rarely watches professional basketball, much less the WNBA.
However, he asserts that Caitlin Clark is benefiting the league by drawing attention from people who might not have chosen to attend a random regular-season game in mid-May or early June.
The league is reviving like never before because to Clark’s celebrity power. In a recent interview with News, Lalas stated that rather than some players using it as an opportunity to vent “resentment,” which has been evident in previous games, the WNBA needs to take control of it.
I believe that the response we are witnessing has a genuine human component, and perhaps it is even more apparent in sports because, as Lalas noted, “sports can definitely foster the same pettiness, [jealousy], and resentment that exist in real life.” You may feel that she is new and hasn’t “paid her dues” or anything like, but I think you need to have perspective and maturity to look at this and realize that even though you may have been working, you’re a-— off before. Despite not watching basketball or the WNBA, I am now finding myself to be interested in them.
