Less than 50 days remain until the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and five-time Olympic gold medallist Elaine Thompson-Herah looked to sustain an Achilles injury during the USATF New York City Grand Prix on Sunday.
At Icahn Stadium, Thompson-Herah, 31, was running a 100-meter race when she started to lose her early advantage.
The Jamaican track sensation removed her right shoe and was seen hunched over in agony. Eventually, she was swept off the course.
Soon after the event, Thompson-Herah posted an update on Instagram.
“I felt something uncomfortable as I began to push I still tried to go but it got worse,” she tweeted, adding that she’s “awaiting professional advice.”
The accident on Sunday occurred less than 50 days before the Paris Summer Olympics.
In both the 100 and 200 meter events, Thompson-Herah is the reigning champion for women. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, she also took home the gold in the women’s 4×100-meter relay.
