Atletico Madrid’s B team now has Fernando Torres, a former striker for Spain, as their head coach.
The forty-year-old took up his new role after serving as coach of Atletico Madrid’s Under-19 team.
“I accept it as a great challenge with a lot of ambition and the tranquility of knowing that we are ready,” Torres added.
During his brilliant playing career, Torres won the 2010 World Cup and made 110 appearances for Spain.
By scoring in both finals, he also contributed to his nation’s victories at the European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
In terms of clubs, Torres began his playing career at Atletico Madrid, played for Liverpool, and then transferred to Chelsea for a then-record £50 million sum.
Before going back to Atletico in late 2014, he had a brief stint at AC Milan. In 2018, he won the Europa League with Atletico.
Torres played at Sagan Tosu in Japan until retiring in 2019.
