On the eve of the PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, last month, McIlroy filed for divorce from his seven-year wife.
A few weeks later, the divorce was finalized in a Palm Beach County, Florida, filing that coincided with the opening of the US Open on Thursday in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Ten years have passed since McIlroy’s last major victory, which came at the 2014 PGA Championship.
McIlroy said that he and his wife had “resolved” their disagreements in a statement to The Guardian.
The man from Northern Ireland stated: “There have been whispers regarding my private life.”
It’s foolish to respond to every rumor that arises.
“In the last few weeks, Erica and I have come to the realization that having a family together is our best future.
“Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
When she worked for the PGA of America during the Ryder Cup at Medinah in the Chicago suburbs in 2012, the couple first became together.
McIlroy nearly missed the start of a match, but Stoll made arrangements for him to be escorted by police to aid ensure he arrived at the course on time.
