The world’s ugliest dog title has gone to a canine from the United States.
On Friday, the eight-year-old Pekingese named Wild Thang emerged victorious in the 2024 World’s Ugliest Dog competition held in California.
Based on his biography, Wild Thang became ill as a puppy with canine distemper, a virus.
“He survived, but not without permanent damage,” it reads.
“His teeth did not grow in, causing his tongue to stay out and his right front leg paddles 24/7.”
He describes himself as “a healthy, happy Glugly (glamorous/ugly) guy” aside from the physical problems.
Together with his owner Ann Lewis, he received a $5,000 (£4,000) check.
Since it has been going on for almost 50 years, the World’s Ugliest Dog competition “celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique,” according to the news.
The occasion “is not about making fun of ‘ugly dogs’,” according to the website, “but having fun with some wonderful characters and showing the world that these dogs are really beautiful.”
Rome, a 14-year-old Pug, placed second, and Daisy Mae, a 14-year-old rescue dog, placed third.
