The news was made on Wednesday during the NATO summit in Washington, DC, when Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the newly appointed British prime minister were meeting.
Ukraine has hailed the decision about the Storm Shadow missiles, which is a hawkish policy change from the previous Conservative government’s position.
The British defense secretary, John Healey, announced the action and told News that Britain “will do all we can to help Ukraine in their fight to repel Putin’s invasion,” without going into “operational arrangements.”
“We provide weapons equipment where we can for them to defend themselves,” Mr. Healey stated during a speech in Washington.
President Zelenskyy said on X following his meeting with Sir Keir that he had received authority to fire Storm Shadow missiles against military targets within Russian territory this morning.
We had the chance to talk about how this choice will actually be put into practice today. I’m appreciative of the UK’s steadfast support of our people and Ukraine.
