Following allegations of violence at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a section 60 dispersal order was put in place, granting police the right to conduct stop and search operations.
Social media footage seems to show at least four black people brandishing machetes close to Adventure Island theme park.
“I’m urging calm and encouraging people to avoid Jubilee beach this evening as @EssexPoliceUK deal with a large influx of young people,” tweeted Southend councillor Daniel Cowan.
,”It’s a developing situation that CCTV is monitoring, and more police resources are en route to support the dispersal order that is in place.”
According to Essex Police, the directive will be in effect until Wednesday at 8 p.m.”We have a zero-tolerance approach to violence, disorder, and carrying weapons in Essex,” stated Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin.
“We have a lot of officers in the city center, and in the wake of these instances, they have already collected a lot of firearms and made swift arrests.
“To ensure the safety and support of our local partners and businesses, our police collaborate closely with them. We shall make use of all the necessary authority at our disposal to ensure the safety of our communities.
“Our officers have responded to these incidents reported by members of the public this evening, and the information they provided is invaluable.”
