Following their plane’s landing at a tiny airstrip in the US state of New Mexico, US authorities detained Joaquin Guzman Lopez and Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada last week.
According to reports, the 76-year-old may have been betrayed by Guzman Lopez, 38, to the United States.
However, Jose Luis Gonzalez, the Guzman family’s attorney, stated that “a kidnapping is out of the question”.
When asked if Guzman Lopez had tricked Zambada, the attorney responded, “No, no,” to Radio Formula. Los Chapitos followed the standard procedure and obeyed their father’s instructions.”
The four sons of El Chapo are referred to as “Los Chapitos” and have taken on their father’s faction.
The statement made by Mr. Gonzalez runs counter to the version provided by Frank Perez, Zambada’s attorney, who claimed on Saturday that Guzman Lopez had “kidnapped” his client.
According to Mr. Perez, Zambada was dragged against his will onto a plane to the United States after Guzman Lopez and six men dressed in military uniforms ambushed him close to the capital of Sinaloa state, Culiacan.
