Trout announced Thursday on social media that an MRI revealed the fresh meniscus injury. He had surgery to repair the meniscus on May 3 and was working toward a return when his rehabilitation was halted on Tuesday.
,”After months of hard work, I was devastated (Wednesday) when an MRI showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again — ending my hopes of returning this season,” tweeted Trout.
“Playing and competing are important aspects of my life. This is just as sad and infuriating for me as it is for you.
I recognize that I have disappointed many people, but believe me when I say that I will do all in my power to come back stronger.”
Trout batted.220 with 10 home runs and 14 RBIs in 29 games this season for the Angels, who are fourth in the AL West and have little chance of making the playoffs.
All-Star player Trout (who was named MVP of the American League in 2014, 2016, and 2019) has missed the last four seasons due to injury. He has not played more than 119 games in any of the previous five seasons. He was limited to 36 games in 2021 and 82 last season.
