Rescuers reported that several of those slain were displaced people who were sheltering in schools.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged the strikes, claiming they targeted Hamas “command and control centres” in two Gaza City schools.
Israeli strikes targeted Gaza schools for the third time in a week.
The Israeli Defense Forces declared: “Hamas’s al-Furqan Battalion used the schools as command centers to plan and carry out attacks against IDF troops and the state of Israel, as well as as a hiding place for its terrorist operatives.”
Footage on social media appeared to show bodies inside one of the schools as rescuers rescued injured people, including children.
Palestinian media said that at least 30 individuals were killed in the strikes. According to Mahmoud Basal, a spokesman for the Palestinian Civil Defense, the majority of those killed were women and children.
He stated that other people were thought to be buried beneath the rubble.
The attack on the al-Nasr and Hassan Salama schools occurred on the same day as an attack on a displaced people’s camp in a central Gaza hospital, which reportedly killed at least five people.
On Saturday, officials said that an air strike on Gaza City’s Hamama School killed at least 17 people.
