KARACHI: In an effort to relieve the people weary of inflation and their crippling power bills, the government of Sindh has chosen to equip 200,000 homes with solar-powered electrical systems.
Speaking on Saturday at a gathering held at the chief minister’s residence in Karachi, chief minister Murad stated that providing solar panels will assist families in addressing the current problems with electricity bills and power.
This development coincides with a number of nationwide demonstrations against excessive electricity costs, including a sit-in organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami in Rawalpindi. In the most recent fiscal year, which concluded on June 30, the federal government authorized a rise in electricity prices of 26%. The population, which was already suffering from rising prices, took a another hit on July 13 when the administration of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif added a further 20% jump.
Due to public anger over inflated bills brought on by the exorbitant prices of electricity, a Senate panel has called for a forensic examination of independent power producers (IPPs).
Renewable energy sources that are friendly to the environment, like solar panels, have been popular choices for many domestic consumers in recent years.
