Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the current chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), has had his term extended by one year by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The secretary of the education ministry received a summary on Tuesday from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The minister of education moved a summary, therefore the extension was due after that. On Monday, his two-year term came to an end.
On July 29, 2022, he was named chairman of the HEC. The position was previously held by famous educationist Dr. Ahmed from 2014 until 2018.
The HEC chairman’s term was shortened from four to two years by decree during the PTI administration. This adjustment appears to have been done in order to remove Dr. Tariq Banuri, the former Chairman of HEC, who was abruptly fired by the PTI government.
