Known as the “Aligarh College” of Punjab prior to independence, the Government Islamia College located on Railway Road in Lahore is a noteworthy landmark in the history of the Pakistan Movement.
In addition to oppressing Muslims, Hindus began demolishing Muslim-run educational institutions prior to the subcontinent’s partition. The college was founded in 1892 by the Anjuman Himayat-e-Islam with the goal of educating and uplifting the Muslim community in Punjab during a period when Hindu tyranny was posing a danger to their educational institutions.
