The Privatization Commission Board will now have eleven members instead of just eight, as agreed by the federal cabinet on Tuesday. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over the meeting.
The decision is in line with the Prime Minister’s earlier instruction, made public on International Women’s Day, to increase the representation of women on important national boards. It also complies with the Privatization Division’s recommendations.
The newly established seats will be occupied by women, according to a news release from the PM Office Media Wing, which represents a step towards gender parity in the important decision-making bodies of the nation.
Furthermore, at the August 2 meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization, the cabinet approved the first step of the privatization of three distribution firms (DISCOs).
