Following an appeal, the American gymnast’s floor routine on August 5th at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, originally ranked fifth, was moved up to third place.
She was, however, degraded once more in a stunning turn of events when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) determined that the appeal was filed too late.
The American gymnast called the decision “unjust” in her initial remarks following it. Additionally, she denounced “racially driven attacks” on social media that targeted her.
“I am speechless,” she uttered. “This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey.”
Chiles continued, “I’ve poured my heart and soul into this sport and I am so proud to represent my culture and my country.”
Chiles expressed her gratitude to her fans and the USA Olympic and Paralympic Committee, stating that they would file an appeal against the ruling that disqualified her from third place.
