KARACHI: Sardar Sarfaraz, Chief Meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), has alerted Karachi residents to the possibility of severe rainfall this weekend, which could result in urban flooding in the port city’s impoverished districts.
Sarfaraz said that the monsoon winds in Sindh could “affect the city (Karachi) from tomorrow” when the Met Office declared their arrival on Friday.
The monsoon season is predicted to last till August 25 in the nation, with rain and thunder likely in Karachi, Ghotki, Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, Sanghar, Thatta, and other Sindhi cities through August 19.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has alerted major cities to the possibility of heavy rain in Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Chiniot, as per the PMD’s forecast.
