In addition to housing his archive permanently, the Sir Ken Dodd Happiness Centre will offer events and comedic performances.
The city’s Royal Court theater, where Sir Ken frequently played during his career, will be connected to the four-story center. 2018 saw his passing.
The plans were accepted by Liverpool City Council last week after being filed in November.
“I’m sure he would be ecstatic,” Lady Dodd remarked, noting that her spouse had contributed to preventing the theater’s closure in 1979 and that it is “in the city he loved.
Sir Ken’s belongings, including his Diddymen puppets and the notebooks he used to jot down jokes and musings about his life and seven-decade career, will be on display at the center.
He left behind almost a thousand books that he used to write jokes in, labeling the finest ones with the abbreviation GOG, or “good old gag.”
