At a press conference on Saturday, Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio hinted that “behaviors that were not perfectly in order” could have contributed to the number of deaths off the coast of Sicily.
According to him, the focus of the investigation would be on “the extent to which all the people [on board] were warned” of safety precautions.
“All members of the crew, the manufacturers, or those who were not surveying or supervising the ship” might be held accountable.
However, he noted that every avenue of investigation is being explored, including the possibility that the region’s harsh weather had a part.
Bentivoglio Fiandra, a firefighter, disclosed that during the emergency call.
According to him, those who perished as a result “were trying to hide in the cabins on the left-hand side” of the ship. Alternatively, they might not have been able to flee because they were asleep. He said that divers found the body of the onboard chef closest to the ship first.
A rotating crew of rescuers then discovered five more inside the yacht; the first was in the first cabin on the left, and the last was in the third cabin on the same side.
