COPENHAGEN: Swedish prosecutors announced on Wednesday that they would prosecute two individuals for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran in a string of instances that occurred in the previous year and incited anger among Muslims and concerns of violence.
When the two men desecrated the Holy Quran outside of mosques and in other public locations, they committed “offences of agitation against an ethnic or national group” four times, according to a statement from the Swedish Prosecution Authority.
The burnings prompted Sweden’s internal security agency to increase its terrorism alert level, while neighboring Denmark, which had saw similar instances, strengthened its laws to forbid the practice.
“On these four occasions, both men are charged with making comments and mishandling the Quran.
