With the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has accomplished a remarkable indirect recovery, resulting in the highest single-project savings in the NAB’s 25-year history—Rs168.5 billion.
The investigation, which was started in 2018, was centered on claims related to contract awarding that was not lawful, government money that were misused, and false performance guarantees related to the BRT.
Since then, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accountability body has denied contractors’ astounding Rs 31.5 billion claim in the International Court of Arbitration.
It was discovered through the NAB’s examination that six civil works contracts for the BRT were given out in error. Of these, four involved joint ventures involving both Pakistani and foreign companies, three related to road construction and three to building works.
