Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, stated on Wednesday that necessity, not personal interests, should be the driving force behind constitutional revisions.
He reaffirmed his support for the creation of a constitutional court and emphasized the need for agreement when enacting such modifications during a meeting with leading media in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the JUI chairman stressed, was seeking support for larger national reforms, not individual-benefitting adjustments.
Concerning the state of affairs in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), he added that armed organizations now essentially dominate both provinces, with nationalists and religious parties being marginalized by deceitful tactics.
In addressing national matters, Fazlur Rehman opposed the application of double standards, treating nationalist activities as internal affairs.
