After the 18-year-old Swiss participant in the juvenile road race suffered a crash, the authorities are “extremely concerned” for her health.
As per the desires of the family, the championships will proceed in accordance with the race schedule, according to the Zurich 2024 Local Organising Committee (LOC).
“The responsible authorities are still investigating how the disaster occurred. Later on, more details will be provided,” the LOC stated in a statement on Friday.
Furrer, who won two silver medals at this year’s Swiss Road Nationals in the time trial and road race, was flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital.
Much of Thursday’s racing was accompanied by torrential rain.
“Muriel Furrer’s health situation is still dire. The Zurich 2024 Local Organizing Committee, Swiss Cycling, and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) are still quite concerned.”
The UCI, Swiss Cycling, and the LOC released a joint statement on Thursday stating that: “Swiss rider Muriel Furrer fell heavily, for reasons that are still unknown. She is critically injured and has sustained a significant brain injury.
