According to the Guardian, the Private Eye editor was in the back of the black cab in Soho, central London, when a suspected bullet struck the vehicle’s back window.
According to the newspaper, the incident took place on Tuesday just after 10 a.m. on Dean Street, close to Private Eye’s headquarters.
It further said that police had blocked off the surrounding roads and that neither Hislop nor the taxi driver had been hurt in the event.
The Guardian was informed by a source that authorities are not ruling out any reason.
The Metropolitan Police stated they were summoned “to a report of a firearms discharge” in a statement.
A shot was fired towards a London black taxi driver who was stopped in traffic. The bullet hit the driver’s window, the force continued.
Since its debut in 1990, Hislop has been a panelist on the satirical quiz show Have I Got News For You and has served as editor of Private Eye.
