Several former legislators have been disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for neglecting to submit their annual wealth statements.
The disqualification letters issued by the ECP named seven former members of the Sindh Provincial Assembly and eleven former members of the National Assembly.
The reason for the ECP’s decision is that these people neglected to submit their tax returns by the September 30 deadline for the 2022–2023 fiscal year. Until the unfiled returns are received, the disqualification will stand.
Prominent individuals including Khuram Dastgir, Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, Ishaq Khan, Muhammad Ali, Kamaluddin, Ismat Ullah, Syed Mahmud Shah, and Thamina Matlub are among those excluded from the National Assembly.
