Two years after the initial trial, the women’s attorneys are back in court to rebut a disagreement on legal fees.
The case was given the moniker “Wagatha Christie” in homage to the well-known British crime writer and Rooney’s investigative abilities. It garnered international notice once it was brought before the court in the summer of 2022.
Vardy was accused by the wife of former England football player Wayne Rooney of leaking material to The Sun tabloid from her private Instagram account.
She accomplished this in 2019 with a social media post that went viral and garnered over 370,000 Twitter interactions, including nearly 50,000 retweets.
After that, Vardy sued Rooney for the post; the case was heard in the High Court in 2022 for nine days, and Vardy lost the lawsuit.
Mrs. Justice Steyn, the case’s presiding judge, declared the post to be “substantially true” and mandated that Vardy reimburse Rooney for 90% of his legal fees.
According to Vardy’s attorneys, Rooney has requested a legal cost totaling £1,833,906.89 in the most recent development in the dispute. They claim that the prices for a five-star hotel and a chic restaurant are included in those expenses.
