Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa’s crucial verdict addressing sisters’ inheritance rights was handed down by the three-member Supreme Court on Tuesday.
The ruling highlights the need for women to have protection over their inherited properties, resolving a long-standing problem where Sharia law frequently denies women their just share.
The decision makes clear that, regrettably, a lot of women do not have the legal right to inherit, and that some attorneys help to conceal this injustice. In response to pointless lawsuits meant to prevent these rights, the supreme court fined the petitioner who filed “baseless claims” Rs 300,000.
Furthermore, the court requires that the fine collected should be dispersed among the sisters who have been unfairly deprived of their inheritance.
