Samy Daim, whom Craig Spokes, 36, of Northampton, thought to be the landlord, received a year’s rent ahead for an apartment in London. However, Mr. Spokes was ordered to leave and all of his belongings were abandoned on the street less than a month after he moved in.
Since then, neither Mr. Daim, 27, nor the requests for comment have received a response.
The police organization that reports scams, Action Fraud, stated that it does not advise looking into the matter further.
After October 2023, Mr. Spokes intended to relocate to London.
He claimed that Mr. Daim had informed him that he was the landlord of a Bloomsbury apartment, and that if a full year’s rent was paid up ahead, a £500 monthly reduction would be granted.
Although Mr. Daim was actually renting the apartment from the actual landlord, he handed Mr. Spokes the keys to the house so he could move in.
According to court records reviewed by the news, Mr. Daim owed the actual landlord over £14,000 in rent, which resulted in the property being placed under bailiff.
